9-11 Tributes Today in Journal Square

The ceremony at the JSQ Fountain didn’t start until around 530PM. A number of people attended. I didn’t finish the event.

Today is the 7th anniversary of 9/11 (September 11) terrorist attacks in New York City. As a tribute to Journal Square/Jersey City residents who died in the terrorist attacks, their names will be added to the Circle of Honor at the Journal Square fountain. I’ll post some pictures if I can make it there this afternoon…

A ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. at the Journal Square 9/11 memorial fountain, in the plaza near the Journal Square Transportation Center. The following people will be inducted into the circle of honor: The LeFrak family; the late Michael Pane; the late Joseph Pane, Michael’s father; Dr. Rodger Doyle, former Jersey City Councilwoman Frances Thompson, the late Hank Gallo, a Hudson County freeholder.

This morning, Hudson County Community College will have a ceremony at 25 Journal Square from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at which the names of the New Jersey victims of 9/11 will be read. Moments of silence will be observed at 9:59 a.m. and 10:29 a.m., the times the South and North towers of the World Trade Center fell.

A ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the foot of Grand Street on the waterfront. There will be prayers, songs and a recitation of the names of Jersey City residents killed in the attack.

The New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation will hold a ceremony at 1:30 p.m., at the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal in Liberty State Park — where New Jersey’s 9/11 memorial is planned.

From 12:30 to 2 p.m., the college will hold its Unity Day, which is intended to celebrate the its diverse population. There will be food, music and entertainment.

The Newport community will hold a ceremony at Newport Town Square, at Town Square Place, from 5 to 7 p.m.
