Last Monday, Jersey City City Hall announced that government offices will have a delayed opening (11AM) due to inclement weather. However, Social Security Administration office on JFK Blvd (north of Journal Square PATH station) was closed all day. No notices were posted on their door leaving customers and residents lined up outside in the cold. As expected, there were tons of complaints, as it’s very hard to commute or walk through snow (not to mention the strong and cold wind) only to find out that their efforts went to nil.
Representative from SSA said that people should known that the office was closed before they left their houses. According to Jersey Journal, “many people tried to find out what was going on … including those waiting in line, Jersey Journal reporters and U.S Rep. Albio Sires chief of staff Richard Turner — and none got any answers.”
Today, SSA office apologized for the inconvenience they caused.
Well, damage had been done already. As their course of action, SSA has arranged to have New Jersey 101.5 FM radio broadcast any future office closings or delayed openings.
