Culinary Arts Plaza Park: Now Open

I was supposed to go out yesterday and take pictures of the park like I mentioned last Friday, but I was so sick. Good thing BrooklynFoo of Jersey City Construction blog wrote an entry about Culinary Arts Plaza Park and posted some pictures. All captions are his.

This should be a good little plaza. Even though its small, JSQ needs all the park space it can get right now.

The park on the triangular lot at the corner of Sip Avenue, Newkirk Street, and Van Reypen Street is finally opened. It was inaugurated last Wednesday morning, October 29, 2008. When I drove by this afternoon not a single soul was there. It’s probably because of the cold weather.

“I think you’ll find students filling this area once the weather gets warmer,” said HCCC President Glen Gabert.

Maybe tomorrow – in time for Halloween – we’ll see more people. I’ll *try* to take some photos.

The Culinary Arts Plaza Park is anticipated to be finished this Fall (as seen on the photo above), and it would be a addition to our area.

Although it is quite small in area as compared to other Jersey City parks, I think the park will benefit us JSQ residents. We don’t have to walk all the way to Lincoln Park to chill.

If you are not sure where the new park will be located at, it is at the corner of Sip Avenue, Newkirk Street, and Van Reypen Street. Below is the screen capture of the site:

Here’s the google street view link. From the photo above, it is easy to tell that the new park is less than half of a regular JC park. But this will do if we want to take a break from our busy Journal Square life.
