Last month, Bally Total Fitness Gym on Bergen Avenue closed due to fire. The adjacent business – Ashley Stewart Clothing Store for Womens – was affected. Both of them still remain shut down more than a month after the incident.
Newkirk Street (westbound lane – the strip from Jones St. to Bergen Av) was blocked off for about two weeks due to repairs done to the building. The photo above was taken a week after the fire occurred. Newkirk Street is now open to traffic.
However, it still remains unknown when Bally or Ashley Stewart will reopen for business.

Any word on what’s up with the Bally’s re-opening taking so long? A member I know says his trainer keeps saying “we’re opening tomorrow” but that never seems to happen.
