Christmas Decors and Lights at Chestnut and Elizabeth St.

Have you been around Journal Square to see the beautiful Christmas lights and decors of the houses? I took these pictures about two weeks ago, before the pre-winter snow storm hit the East Coast.

NJ.com posted the finalists of Jersey City’s Best Christmas Decorated Homes contest 2009 hosted by Pat O’Melia. Unfortunately, no homeowner from Journal Square made the final list.

Below are some photos from Stuyvesant Avenue, Romaine Avenue, Garrison Avenue, Chestnut Avenue and Elizabeth Street. The decors are much beautiful in real life, I must say.

Bye Bye Wreaths!

Saw this on Bergen Avenue… Christmas wreaths that adorned light poles around Journal Square were being taken down, and the contractors were putting the “NEW Journal Square” banners back up.

I am under the impression that the city is going to use the same ornaments next year.

MVC Schedule for Christmas

DMV-MVC Journal Square Branch has their Christmas schedule posted on the front door. They are open today, but will be closed tomorrow, December 25, 2008 in observance of Christmas holiday. They will re-open on December 26, 2008.

Post Office Schedules for Christmas Holiday

Make sure to mail your letters, cards, gifts, parcels before the said dates and avoid the hassles and headaches.

If for some reasons you can’t read the text in the picture, it says:

This Post Office will be closing early on December 24th and 26th, 2008. Office Hours for these days will be 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Regular hours resume on Saturday, December 27th…

However, if you still can’t make it early, you can visit other Post Offices which will open late. One is in Downtown, JC (69 Montgomery Street, Jersey City) which will be open until 5PM. And the other is in Newark (2 Federal Square, Newark, NJ 07102) which will be open 24 hours a day.

Bright lights

Have you tried driving or walking around Journal Square at night? If yes, you probably have seen houses adorned with bright Christmas lights and ornaments, such as these two on Stuyvesant Avenue near the corner of Romaine Avenue.

I have seen several other buildings/houses with nice, head-turning Christmas decors; unfortunately, most of them are on the hidden streets — off the main roads.

The pictures were taken before 8 PM this evening. With Christmas only 10 days (technically, 11) away, the owners of the house were still adding lights to the existing configurations.

Merry Christmas

Santa doll by the front door.

As I was admiring the scene, the owner told me that they have a big Santa doll, and pointed up to their front door.

Have you seen a house/building/apartment with more beautiful decorations?

Santa will be at the Loews Theatre

Journal Square residents have a chance to visit Santa today (Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008) from 12:30 noon to 3:30 PM in the beautifully decorated Grand Lobby of Loew’s Jersey Theatre. This event is a food and toy drive (sponsored by Friends of the Loew’s, Inc., the Jersey Journal & the City of Jersey City) that will continue through December 19, 2008.

Santa, however, will be there only for today. If you have pets, you are requested to visit between 2PM and 330PM only.

Photo with Santa is $3, but becomes free if you donate canned food or new unwrapped toys.
