Join us in worship as St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the church on earth and in heaven, celebrates the new life Jesus gives by dying and rising for us.

• March 29, 30, 31: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday in Holy Week. 7 pm, Prayer at the Close of the Day.
• April 1: Maundy Thursday. 7 pm, Holy Communion with individual absolution, footwashing, stripping of the altar.
• April 2: Good Friday. Noon, Lessons & Prayers. 3 pm,  Stations of the Cross. 7 pm, Adoration of the Crucified with reading of the Passion according to St. John
• April 3: The Vigil of Easter. 7 pm, lighting of the new fire, candlelit procession, readings, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, the first Eucharist of Easter.
• April 4: Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of Our Lord. 10 am, Festival Eucharist with special music.

The Community Cookout at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Hoboken Avenue (off of Five Corners) last Saturday (July 11) was a complete success. Well over 100 neighbors from the Five Corners area of Jersey City came to enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs, ice cream, and one another’s company, according to its website.

This Saturday, they’ll be having a community cookout/ice cream social for Journal Square/Five Corners community.

Next week, they will be needing volunteers for their Feed The Hungry program.

Community Cookout/Ice Cream Social

We’re inviting the entire Five Corners/Journal Square neighborhood to join us on Saturday, July 11, 11 am to 1:30 pm, for a cookout and ice cream social. We’ll serve hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings, beverages, and homemade ice cream–all for free! Our youth group will run children’s games, and tours of the church building will be available. This is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors in our little corner (Five Corners!) of Jersey City. Come one, come all–come rain or come shine!

Volunteer to Feed The Hungry

The Sharing Place, the hunger ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church, provides nutritious food to over 600 families every month. You can help!

• Unload the food truck on Wed., July 15, or Thurs. July 23, at approximately 8:30 am. Please contact Sharing Place director Santos Murillo for details.
• Make and distribute bags of groceries on Saturday July 18 or July 25, 7:30 am till noon (or later if the need is great)

Got kids? Looking for Easter egg hunt activities here in Journal Square (or Jersey City)? Here’s one at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Hoboken Avenue (off of Five corners).

Easter egg hunt

After our festive Easter worship service at 10 am on April 12, the children (and young-at-heart) of St. Paul Lutheran Church will have an Easter egg hunt. We’ll prolong our celebration of the resurrection with this fun activity and Christian fellowship.  Rain or shine, join us for worship and plan to stay after for some Easter fun!

A bomb scare incident occurred this morning at Five Corners. Police blocked off traffic from Hoboken Avenue to Central Avenue. “…Two suspicious packages were left at the Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union on Hoboken Avenue…”

Five Corners bomb scare

Cops have blocked off both sides of Hoboken Avenue from Five Corners to Central Avenue in Jersey City, The Journal’s Tom Shortell, who is on the scene, reports.

Two suspicious packages were left at the Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union on Hoboken Avenue and authorities are treating the incident as a bomb scare.

The bank and its surrounding buildings have been evacuated as the bomb squad and K-9 unit investigate.

Coptic Community Services – 861 Bergen Ave., Jersey City

At first, I thought that the center was small, but went I went inside, I was overwhelmed by the number of people in attendance! The place is huge! As a matter of fact, the Deacon for Public Relations – Deacon Emad Attaalla – told me that they had already served approximately 1,000 people from across Hudson County (the event wasn’t over yet at that time, so he was expecting more). Last year, he said, “only” 650 people attended. Coptic Community Services has been doing this for the past 7 years.

Jimmy King’s Civic Association – St. Paul Church at 440 Hoboken Avenue, Jersey City

The association has been doing this service for the past 11 years, according to Mr. Richard McCormack. The event was not only for the homeless, but also for senior citizens and other people. It started at around 11AM but was already over by 1PM due to high turn out of walk-ins. The association served around 600 people.

City Councilman Steve Lipski and his wife Yraida, along with Coptic Community Services, will host a traditional, complimentary Thanksgiving Dinner from noon to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The dinner will be held at the Coptic Community Center at 861 Bergen Ave. in Jersey City. For more information or to volunteer, call (201) 547-5159.

Dinner will be served at the Sharing Place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Hall at 440 Hoboken Ave., Jersey City from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
