The two are among dozens of people arrested today in a wide-ranging corruption probe.

Journal Square resident Jimmy King was one of the 44 people arrested by the feds this morning for alleged corruption. Just a few of weeks ago, King filed a lawsuit against Ward C councilwoman Nidia Lopez challenging her residency.

Here’s why King was arrested, according to PolitickerNJ.com:

…According to a federal complaint, a cooperating witness was introduced to King by two unnamed people – a consultant and Jersey City official involved with the Housing Authority and school board. They allegedly agreed to accept $5,000 on behalf of king for help with zoning changes for a Garfield Avenue property if he was elected to the council…

Complaint against King can be downloaded HERE (PDF)

Lopez leads King by approximately 700 votes and collected more than 50% of the turnout, therefore, avoiding a runoff.

Nidia Lopez will replace the outgoing councilman Steve Lipski, a Journal Square resident who did not seek re-election this year due to number controversies around him.

Congratulations, Nidia Lopez! And Best of luck representing Journal Square!

The other day, the Jersey Journal announced their endorsements for the city’s mayor and councilmen. Journal Square resident Jimmy King made the list.

Jimmy King is pretty popular here. He has his own civic association named after him (Jimmy King Civic Association) and they do a lot of volunteering and organizing events (such as hosting Thanksgiving Dinner and giving Christmas presents to kids) not only in Journal Square but also across Hudson County.

Below you will find Jersey Journal’s picks for this year’s election:

Mayor: Lou Manzo

Ward A: Independent Andre Richardson
Ward B: Healy running mate Philip J. Kenny
Ward C: Manzo running mate Jimmy King
Ward D: Manzo running mate James Carroll
Ward E: Incumbent and independent candidate Steven Fulop
Ward F: Independent Omar Barbour

At-large: Manzo running mate Lori Serrano and Levin running mates Andrew Hubsch and Emilio C. DeLia.
