Today is JCFridays – a day of FREE arts events around Jersey City. For Journal Square, we only have one participant for this event:

6pm-9pm 32 JONES GALLERY present “Taken Spaces: Black Lesbians Against White Aesthetics.” 32 Jones Presents new works by photographer Sherley Camille Olopherne. Jersey City Crime: Robbery + Stabbing (Sip & Jones)

Stay vigilant even when you’re in front of your building, you never know when the criminals are going to strike.

The incident happened last Saturday (July 11, 2009) in the middle of the night. A 25-year old man was robbed and then stabbed in the abdomen for a loaf bread(!) in the lobby of his apartment (Sip Avenue and Jones Street | Map).

…The victim said he had just gotten home from work when three men attacked him in the lobby. They robbed a tote bag with his work clothes and a loaf of bread and stabbed him once in the stomach, reports said…

The three suspects fled in white SUV. These thugs are like vampires, they’re awake at night preying on unsuspecting victims.

65-79 Sip Avenue Jersey City: Construction Soon?

This building at 65 Sip Avenue has been abandoned for ages, in my estimate, at the same time as the demolished hotel on the square. Based on the name on Jones Street entrance, the site was the occupied by Hudson Physical Therapy before it was abandoned.

Last week, I noticed this structure (65-75 Sip Avenue) is already fenced. Construction on the way?

The building without the fence. This is an eyesore in Journal Square, along with another building across the street (not in the picture).

The issuance date of construction building notice says “May 2007″, for interioir demolition.

Junks accumulate in the front of 75 Sip Avenue. Who’s in-charge of cleaning the garbage if the structure is abandoned?

JCFridays in Journal Square

JCFridays is a city-wide culture and arts events participated by various individuals and groups. It is held every first Friday of the season.

For this winter edition of JCFridays, there is only one participant from Journal Square – 32 Jones Gallery. They will present “Pocket-Size,” a small works show by various artists. Any work sold can be taken off the wall and home for the holidays!
