Farmers’ Market 2011 at Journal Square

Farmers’ Market at Journal Square started about three weeks ago and will continue until the fall season every Wednesday and Friday. If you are a first time resident of JSQ, this event simply means you get a chance to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables locally grown here in NJ.

The market is located just outside of PATH station on John F. Kennedy Boulevard. You’ll also find bread, pickles, tomatoes, snacks, and NEW this year: Gourmet coffee, NJ wines, and Italian specialties.

The Market opens at 10 in the morning and closes at 7:30PM until November 23, 2011 (Wed. and Fri).

Journal Square Farmers’ Market Starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow, June 16, 2010 (Wednesday), Farmers’ Market will start here in Journal Square. It will run weekly throughout the summer until Fall. There are good news and bad news, though.

We start with the bad news. Starting this year’s market, we will not be hearing any more Live Music on the square, as the city cut it from the budget.

The good news: On July 2, Farmers’ Market will begin to add Friday schedules. It may not be as lively buying produce as before, but we have more time to buy fresh tomatoes!

Last Day for Journal Square Clowns

According to Chris Bernardo – Operations Manager, Journal Square SID – Today was the last day for the Journal Square clowns that gave away balloons to kids.

Good thing I and my little buddy Marcus (orange shirt) went to the PATH Plaza before 12PM to watch the Live Music. Marcus enjoyed the balloon shield and sword that Polka Dot guy made for him.

The taller clown was more popular because of his unusual height. He was also kind enough to pose next to Marcus for a picture.

The Live Music Band was good today. We were lucky to catch them perform Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean, as people danced to its beat.

Live Music and Farmers Market Today in Journal Square

Craig Redmond and CDREAMS performed LIVE MUSIC today (1130 AM – 130 PM) on the square entertaining Journal Square residents. Meanwhile, Farmers’ Market continues to attract customers because of fresh produce and vegetables.

Looking for PSEG Office in Journal Square? It is inside the Transportation Center, right next to the Jackie Robinson statue. You won’t miss this office as it is directly visible from the escalators.

You can pay your PSEG Bills here (go inside, left side). But sometimes, the lines are long, especially before the holidays.

Farmers Market Last Year

Farmers Market here in Journal Square begins tomorrow – June 24, 2009 – on the square in front of the PATH Plaza Transportation Center along JFK Boulevard. This will run weekly until November 25, 2009.

Last year, Farmers Market included the following vendors: Dr. Pickle, Alstede Farm, and Baker’s Bounty. So if you’d like to get fresh produce, fruits, and vegetables, come to Journal Square every Wednesday.

JSQ Jersey City Trash Cans

I’m not complaining about the trash cans around the Journal Square PATH Plaza. In fact, it’s good that Jersey City has installed bins 50 feet apart from each other.

In other areas? Find out by reading the rest…

In other areas, there’s an obvious lack of trash cans as evidenced by the filth on the sidewalk. Try Summit Avenue between Newkirk Street and Sip. It’s equivalent to almost 3 blocks in length but there are only two trash cans available on both ends.

for your convenience, here’s the street view of Summit Avenue starting from Newkirk Street. Move the arrow towards north to Sip Avenue and watch the left sidewalk. How many waste baskets do you see?

In my humble opinion, there should be at least 3 trash cans per side of a block: 2 on each corner, and one in the middle. If the sidewalk is longer, than add more cans if necessary. If the curb remains filthy, then that’s another story. ;)

Rainy Start

Bergen Avenue and Newkirk Street

This was the scene in Journal Square this morning. It was snowing (with rain), but it wasn’t sticking to the ground. It was definitely a lot different than yesterday, when we had a record-breaking warm weather at 67 degrees Fahrenheit.

At PATH Plaza

I assume this guy was going to work, but he didn’t bother bringing an umbrella with him. I heard from the weather forecast that it’s going to rain this afternoon, so if you are reading this, I hope you are properly geared. The weather is ugly today.
