<p>Today, I&#8217;d like to point out that finally, driving on Sip Avenue doesn&#8217;t feel like we are sailing on an angry sea. <img src='http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/Nomicons v2.0/laughing.png' alt='' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><span id="more-2129"></span>Jersey City <a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/archives/1384">received repaving funds</a> last March, and this month, portion of Sip Avenue (between JFK boulevard and West Side Avenue) has been repaved: no more potholes and sinkholes, and lanes are newly-painted.</p>
<p>Look at the pictures below to see the development &#8211; from being ripped up to getting done!</p>

<p>I believe handicap curb cuts are required by law.</p>
<p>Anyway, I&#8217;m still waiting for the repaving of Sip Avenue, particularly on the west of Bergen Avenue &#8212; from <a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/archives/24">HCCC Culinary Arts Plaza</a> to West Side Avenue. I think I will be singing halleluiah when those potholes and sinkholes are finally gone. <img src='http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/Nomicons v2.0/laughing.png' alt='' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>Jersey City <a href="http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2009/03/jersey_city_gets_money_for_str.html">receives funds to repave Newark Avenue and Sip Avenue</a>. Last year (May 2008), Sip Avenue and other portions of Journal Square were ripped up, and got a facelift (new asphalt). This time, the other side of Sip Avenue (West of JSQ) will be improved. I hope they extend it to West Side Avenue because the drive there is just terrible, especially the portion of <a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/archives/407">TWIN City</a> just past the Fire Station.</p>
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 460px"><a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/newark_avenue_five_corners.jpg"><img alt="Newark Avenue near Five Corners" src="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/newark_avenue_five_corners.jpg" width="450" height="263" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Newark Avenue near Five Corners taken Oct. 2008</p></div>
<p>As for Newark Avenue, I don&#8217;t know why it is slated for another road construction because it was already <a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/archives/206">repaved just last October</a>. </p>
<p>This new funds however, will extend Newark repaving to Coles Street in Downtown, Jersey City. </p>
<blockquote><p>&#8230;<em>The project &#8212; which applies specifically to Sip Avenue between Kennedy Boulevard and Bergen Avenue and Newark Avenue between Tonnelle Avenue and Coles Street &#8212; will also include installation of handicapped curb ramps, replacement of catch basins, and installation of bicycle-safe grates</em>&#8230;</p></blockquote>

<p>Why? Find out by reading the rest. :P (Photos included) <span id="more-428"></span></p>
<p>The traffic yesterday was heavy. Academy was jammed with cars and huge vehicles that inconsiderately blocked intersections. (see photo below)<br />
<div id="attachment_431" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 453px"><a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/academy_bergen1.jpg"><img src="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/academy_bergen1-443x300.jpg" alt="Academy Street heading Bergen Av" title="academy_bergen1" width="443" height="300" class="size-medium wp-image-431" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Academy Street heading Bergen Av</p></div>
<p>I was stuck in the queue of vehicles on Academy, and as soon as I got out of there, I decided to take a snap.<br />
<div id="attachment_432" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 459px"><a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/academy_from_the_car.jpg"><img src="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/academy_from_the_car-449x300.jpg" alt="Academy Street from the Car" title="academy_from_the_car" width="449" height="300" class="size-medium wp-image-432" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Academy Street from the Car</p></div></p>
<p>One glance at my rear-view mirror, I noticed that the intersection of Bergen and Academy was barely passable.<br />
<div id="attachment_430" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 456px"><a href="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/bergen_av_from_the_rearview.jpg"><img src="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/bergen_av_from_the_rearview-446x300.jpg" alt="Bergen Av from the Rear View" title="bergen_av_from_the_rearview" width="446" height="300" class="size-medium wp-image-430" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Bergen Av from the Rear View</p></div></p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<p>This morning, I noticed that Academy traffic was still heavy. I wanted to be smart today, so I avoided my normal route and I took the Summit. Good move. One thing I noticed: there appeared to be a road work between <strong>Newkirk Street and Sip Avenue of Summit</strong>.</p>
<p>Sorry, no picture&#8230; the light was green. :P </p>

The ramp to 1 &#038; 9 was open yesterday, but the traffic in Journal Square (even on Bergen and Academy Street!) was heavier than usual, reason why I took Summit Avenue this morning.</p>
<p>It seems to me that the road work is not directly related to 1 &#038; 9 construction, but to the sidewalk of this <a href="http://www.jcregister.com/2008/06/03/abandoned-us-139-and-jfk-boulevard.html">abandoned building/lot</a> instead.</p>
