- St. John the Baptist Church and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parishes are having a free Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday for those in need from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in St. John the Baptist’s school auditorium, 3044 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City (enter parking lot side of school on Huron Avenue). For more information, contact Jimmy King at (201) 963-1383.

If you want to volunteer, St. Paul Lutheran Church on Hoboken Avenue (Five Corners) are looking for servers to spend time with the needy …

With the generous support of United Way of Hudson County, the Sharing Place at St. Paul Lutheran Church will be serving a feast for our needy neighbors on Thanksgiving Day. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served in several shifts from 10 am to 2 pm on November 26. Helping to serve this dinner would be a good way to express thanks for what you have! Contact the Sharing Place director to volunteer.

Regular Sharing Place distribution of groceries will take place as usual on the last two Saturdays of the month, November 21 and 28.

The accident before the Jersey City St. Patrick’s Day Parade arrived in Journal Square happened between St. Paul’s Avenue and Newark Avenue (based on the inset photo and map). It was reported that the driver – Ernest Picciano, of Bergen Avenue in Brooklyn – was DUI.

The 46-year-old Picciano “was critically injured Sunday morning when a van he was driving swerved across Kennedy Boulevard near St. Paul’s Avenue in Jersey City and slammed into a fire hydrant and light pole…”

Looks to me that he was heading to the festivities.

St. John's Clock Tower on the boulevard

Don’t forget to adjust your clocks for the Daylight Saving Time (DST) which will take effect Sunday, 2AM. Move your clock one hour advance before you go to bed tomorrow to avoid confusion when you wake up on Sunday.

Yeah, we’re gonna lose 1 hour of  sleep. I wonder how many people get so cranky for lack of sleep.

However, for the St. John clock tower (see pic above), DST or no DST doesn’t matter, as the clock is still not fixed yet! :P It remains stuck at 430.

Just a random thought…. The clock tower of St. John’s Church on Kennedy Boulevard is stuck at 4:30. When will they repair it?

If you’re new here in Journal Square, this place is just past Newark Avenue (right side) if you’re north-bound.
