March 29, 30, 31: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday in Holy Week. 7 pm, Prayer at the Close of the Day.

April 1: Maundy Thursday. 7 pm, Holy Communion with individual absolution, footwashing, stripping of the altar.

April 2: Good Friday. Noon, Lessons & Prayers. 3 pm, Stations of the Cross. 7 pm, Adoration of the Crucified with reading of the Passion according to St. John

April 3: The Vigil of Easter. 7 pm, lighting of the new fire, candlelit procession, readings, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, the first Eucharist of Easter.

April 4: Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of Our Lord. 10 am, Festival Eucharist with special music.

Happy Thanksgiving to all residents of Journal Square area of Jersey City! I hope you enjoy your holiday with your family members and friends. Be reminded that tomorrow, parking rules and regulations will be suspended in observance of the holiday.

Here’s one along the boulevard…

- St. John the Baptist Church and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parishes are having a free Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday for those in need from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in St. John the Baptist’s school auditorium, 3044 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City (enter parking lot side of school on Huron Avenue). For more information, contact Jimmy King at (201) 963-1383.

If you want to volunteer, St. Paul Lutheran Church on Hoboken Avenue (Five Corners) are looking for servers to spend time with the needy …

With the generous support of United Way of Hudson County, the Sharing Place at St. Paul Lutheran Church will be serving a feast for our needy neighbors on Thanksgiving Day. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served in several shifts from 10 am to 2 pm on November 26. Helping to serve this dinner would be a good way to express thanks for what you have! Contact the Sharing Place director to volunteer.

Regular Sharing Place distribution of groceries will take place as usual on the last two Saturdays of the month, November 21 and 28.

Journal Square Pics: St. Paul Community Cookout

The Community Cookout at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Hoboken Avenue (off of Five Corners) last Saturday (July 11) was a complete success. Well over 100 neighbors from the Five Corners area of Jersey City came to enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs, ice cream, and one another’s company, according to its website.

Journal Square Events: Cookout & Volunteer @ St. Paul Church

Here’s a couple of events at St. Paul Lutheran Church (440 Hoboken Avenue, Jersey City) near Five Corners.

This Saturday, they’ll be having a community cookout/ice cream social for Journal Square/Five Corners community.

Next week, they will be needing volunteers for their Feed The Hungry program.

Community Cookout/Ice Cream Social

We’re inviting the entire Five Corners/Journal Square neighborhood to join us on Saturday, July 11, 11 am to 1:30 pm, for a cookout and ice cream social. We’ll serve hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings, beverages, and homemade ice cream–all for free! Our youth group will run children’s games, and tours of the church building will be available. This is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors in our little corner (Five Corners!) of Jersey City. Come one, come all–come rain or come shine!

Volunteer to Feed The Hungry

The Sharing Place, the hunger ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church, provides nutritious food to over 600 families every month. You can help!

Unload the food truck on Wed., July 15, or Thurs. July 23, at approximately 8:30 am. Please contact Sharing Place director Santos Murillo for details.

Make and distribute bags of groceries on Saturday July 18 or July 25, 7:30 am till noon (or later if the need is great)

Easter egg hunt

After our festive Easter worship service at 10 am on April 12, the children (and young-at-heart) of St. Paul Lutheran Church will have an Easter egg hunt. We’ll prolong our celebration of the resurrection with this fun activity and Christian fellowship. Rain or shine, join us for worship and plan to stay after for some Easter fun!
