Just got home (6:06PM) from work after an hour drive — 30 minutes just on Summit Avenue alone! The traffic is all the way to the heights area (somewhere between Carlton and Troy Avenue). I sensed something was going on when cars were moving VERY slowly as all intersections are jammed.

Van Reipen and Pavonia Avenues are blocked off, so I couldn’t turn right towards the boulevard. I decided to stay on Summit going South, and it turned out to be a sound decision to make.

I immediately checked the news, and NJ.com reports that there is a suspicious package in Journal Square area: “…The swell of activity is on the southbound side of Kennedy Boulevard at the overpass that is opposite the taxi stand. That is directly above train tracks. All the sidewalks are closed in the area as well…”

All I can say right now is I’m glad to be home! (I hope the package isn’t a bomb)

I took a pic of the scene, but it didn’t turn out good because of the weather. Anyway, that was around 8AM and the traffic wasn’t really affected by that time.

The news said that the traffic light was indeed not working and a gas leak was reported on the same block. “…Compounding frustrations for the drivers and pedestrians, earlier this morning Sip Avenue at Bergen was closed because a traffic light wasn’t working and a small gas leak was reported on the same block.”

Hopefully, everything will be cleard before the afternoon rush hour in Journal Square.

<img src="http://journalsquarejc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/jfk_139-450x293.jpg" alt="John F. The ramp to 1 & 9 was open yesterday, but the traffic in Journal Square (even on Bergen and Academy Street!) was heavier than usual, reason why I took Summit Avenue this morning.

It seems to me that the road work is not directly related to 1 & 9 construction, but to the sidewalk of this abandoned building/lot instead.

If you have a more credible info about this “construction”, please feel free to post. ;)

[Original Post: Oct. 14, 2008] Renovation at Cohens Fashion Optical

The building where Cohens Fashion Optical and other local businesses such Sneaker Square and Boulevard Drinks are situated at (corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Journal Square) is being renovated/reconstructed. This afternoon, it caused a slow-moving traffic along JFK Boulevard, as only one South-bound lane was open to traffic.

The photo above was taken when I was just Pavonia Avenue.

In front of Journal Square Pub

Normally, it would only take less than a minute to drive through this boulevard, but I caught the red light due to heavy volume of cars.

I was north-bound, in front of the JSQ fountain

After an hour, I saw less car but the south-bound traffic was still slow moving when I was on my way to a meeting.

On the way home. Scaffolding already installed.

On my way home, scaffolding was already installed in the front of the building. The traffic was of course relatively light.

But by the looks of it, the construction/renovation won’t be finished until next week.
